Churrerías: provocation for fans and dancers

Bertolt Brecht Cultural Center.
Havana, Cuba, November, 2013.
Norwegian Theater Week.

Performance that integrates audiovisual, DJs and scenic actions. The research is based on the dialogue between the play An Enemy of the People, by Henrik Ibsen, and the concept of Mass, a concept closely related to the history of Cuba, to which the individual is united by conviction or mandate.

The parties of the CDR (Committees for the Defense of the Revolution), the celebrations for May 1st, the triumph of the Revolution… are examples of spaces of mass participation and control. They will mark the relation mass-individual, spontaneity-apathy, the majority and the minority.

In Churrerías: provocation for fans and dancers, sociopolitical and scenic elements are combined through the action of the production and sale of a national product (churros) in the concrete space of a party as a mass phenomenon. The starting point is the opening of small private businesses approved by the new economic policy.
