I want to be a female animal

Rome, Italy (Theater venue), September 2021
The Trailer Collective

Performance/stage installation which opens a discussion on the female body, and the stereotypes that cross it and put it in tension: the artificiality weighing on the construction of the ideal of perfect, beautiful, successful «women» in social imaginary. The spotlight aims at a conflict of generic identity that takes place on the flesh, on the body itself.

Nora has always been the rebellious main character (according to Henrik Ibsen and Elfriede Jelinek): she draws the conflict between the «pillar» of her home, following the ideal, and her inability to fulfill the expectations of others: looking like an enameled doll , ready to serve and offer pleasure.

But now Nora has ceased to be that woman. At least physically. She is the symbol of many bodies that are confronted with a hard question: what does it mean to be a woman? How does the body talk about fictions and artificial life forms? How is power centralized in the control of bodies, and how is it manipulated, defined, framed?

In short, she is that new anonymous anti-heroine, forced even to feel disgust for her body de ella and, nevertheless, willing to welcome us with a smile to her slaughterhouse.

Welcome to the exhibition. Welcome to the kingdom of the excluded flesh.
